I must admit that I am a HUGE fan of the Street Fighter genre. I grew up playing Street Fighter as a kid, then Street Fighter II which basically started the whole 2D fighting genre we still see today. So it was a great pleasure to see the Sci-Fi channel playing Street Fighter Alpha for their AniMonday special.
I've watched the first anime Street Fighter movie which was subtitled in english. I thought that the artwork and story line was top notch. They seemed to have followed the games history and character builds very well.
Then came the American made Street Fighter movie. I would rate this as the worst movie evr in the history of movie making. The characters looks really lame, the story was extremley lame, and for Guile (played by Jean-Claude, figures) to be the star didn't make any sense at all. Oh and when did M.Bison (played by Raul Julia, better known as Gomez Adams) become so skinny and latin? For those of you who actualy played the game or seen the anime, you know what I mean. Right?
And then there's yesterday. Woohoo! I've never seen the Alpha anime and was looking forward to watching it. They did a really good job of matching the Alpha looks to the characters and brought a lot of them into play. The story revovled around Ryu and Ken which is basically like the game. They could have included more elaborate fight scenes and maybe more of the other characters build up but it was good none the less. Oh one pet peeve. They need to seriously work on their redubbing and learn how to actually pronounce the words or more so, names. "Ryu" for instance is not pronounced "Ree-yuu", where the f$%k is the "eeee" sound in there? It should have been pronounce like "RLuu". It's hard at first but go listen to some who actually speaks Japanese, it's similar to how you roll your tongue in Spanish. But of course they said "Ken" right. Anyway, the movie itself was an ingenious way of continuing the story line and held true to their characters. I just wanted more Drangon Ball Z type fights.
I remember growing up and watching different cartoons after school. Most of the time it was GI Joe, Transformers, TMNT, Silverhawks, Gobots and Thundercats. There was one local station that played a different set of cartoons. Stuff like Inspector Gadget, Heathcliff, and my post for today, Voltron. I was always torn between which Votron is better, the vehicles version or the lions. For some reason I was always partial to the lions. To me, the vehicles had to many pieces that could get lost or damaged, too many characters to keep up with. So...which one do you prefer? And which one would win if they were to fight each other?
Here's a clip of the lion version to refresh your memory. Cool ah?
And of course, the vehicle version which I'm sure were a better bang for your buck when it came to the toys.
Well now that you see it, what do you think? What's your opinion?
BTW, keep your eye's out for my "Brainbuster" friday puzzle.
